PSC Promotes DIG Adegboye, Elevates CPs Aboki and Dansabo to AIG, Advances 26,119 Inspectors to ASP II
Abuja, Nigeria, 29 January 2026 The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), including one Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), two Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), 26,119 Inspectors elevated to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II).
The promotions were ratified during the PSC’s 3rd Plenary Meeting held on Thursday, 29 January 2026, under the chairmanship of DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), mni.
The Commission approved the elevation of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Funsho Adegboye, mni, to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG).
Additionally, Commissioner of Police Danjuma Aboki and Commissioner of Police Dansabo Idi were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) following a rigorous, merit-based process that included written examinations and oral interviews conducted by the Commission.
In a landmark decision underscoring its commitment to structured career progression within the Nigeria Police Force, the PSC also approved the promotion of 26,119 Inspectors to ASP II. The advancement followed their successful performance in the recently concluded Departmental Selection Board Examination.
Profiles of Promoted Senior Police Officers
DIG Funsho Adegboye, mni
Before his promotion, DIG Adegboye served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Force Headquarters, Abuja. His distinguished policing career spans key departments including Operations, Training, and Administration. He has held strategic command roles such as Divisional Police Officer, Area Commander in Ijero and Ile-Ife, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Ondo State, and Commissioner of Police in Homicide (FCID), Force Intelligence Department (FID) and Edo State Command. Internationally, he served in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Kosovo, Liberia, Timor, and Somalia.
AIG Danjuma Aboki
Until his elevation, AIG Aboki served as Commissioner of Police, Imo State Police Command.
AIG Dansabo Idi
Prior to his promotion, AIG Idi was the Acting AIG, Research and Planning, Force Headquarters, Abuja. His career includes service as Divisional Police Officer across Kebbi and Kaduna States, Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) in Kebbi, and postings at the Force CID Abuja. He also served as Area Commander in Yauri, Owo, Awe and Kosoboso; Commander of 63 PMF Ikorodu, Lagos; Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Zone 1 Lagos; Commandant, Police College Kaduna and Commissioner of Police, Investment, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
PSC Reaffirms Commitment to Merit and Professionalism
PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), mni congratulated the newly promoted officers and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transparency, meritocracy and best practices in police promotions and appointments.
He stated:
“The Commission is dedicated to recognizing hard work, dedication and competence. These promotions are a testament to that commitment. I urge all promoted officers to see their new ranks as a call to greater service, higher responsibility and renewed dedication to the safety and security of our nation.”
The Chairman also commended the PSC Standing Committee on Nigeria Police Force Matters, led by DIG (Dr.) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), alongside other Board Members, for their diligence throughout the examination and interview process.
