Suleja Correctional Centre Medical Outreach: Bridging Healthcare and Justice

A Partnership of Compassion and Change

On March 22, 2025, AWJAI had the profound honor of partnering with the Neriah Hope and Light Foundation (NHLF) during a Suleja Correctional Center medical outreach,  that brought healthcare, dignity, and renewed hope to inmates.  This joint intervention reflected our shared commitment to serving vulnerable populations through both medical care and access to justice.

This collaboration demonstrated what is possible when justice and healthcare come together to support those too often forgotten. Inmates who had long been deprived of adequate legal and medical attention received vital healthcare services, ranging from medical consultations and check-ups to the provision of essential medications. Beyond treatment, the outreach delivered something equally important: compassion, care, and recognition of their humanity.

While the medical team from NHLF addressed urgent health needs, AWJAI’s legal team engaged inmates without legal representation, identifying cases requiring legal follow-up and support. The Suleja Correctional Centre medical outreach was more than a one-day intervention.  It reflected a broader commitment to a justice system that protects rights while also recognizing the wellbeing of those in custody.

AWJAI remains committed to bridging the gap between justice and health, ensuring that access to care and legal support is not denied to people simply because they are behind bars.
