Apo Police Oversight Visit Strengthens Bail Compliance

The Apo Police Oversight Visit reflects AWJAI’s ongoing commitment to promoting transparency and compliance within the criminal justice system. On July 29, 2024, AWJAI partnered with the Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee (ACJMC) to conduct an oversight visit to Apo Legislative Quarters Police Station. His Worship Magistrate Dodo led the visit, with court observers present to support the evaluation process.
The team aimed to assess compliance with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and other relevant laws governing the management of suspects in custody. Importantly, oversight visits like this help prevent unlawful detention and strengthen accountability.
During the inspection, the court requested the station’s arrest and bail records for review. The records showed that officers made 21 arrests during the month. The Magistrate carefully examined each case to confirm whether due process had been followed.
Following the review, the Magistrate identified three detainees who qualified for bail. As a result, he ordered their release once they met the bail conditions. This action ensured that legal safeguards were upheld and that detention practices followed the law.
The Apo police oversight visit highlights the value of judicial supervision and collaborative monitoring. Regular reviews of arrest and bail records help reduce unnecessary detention and improve compliance with legal standards.
At AWJAI, we continue to support structured oversight visits that promote compliance, protect due process, and strengthen institutional accountability. Through collaboration with justice sector stakeholders, we work to ensure that detention practices respect the rule of law and protect the rights of all individuals in custody.
