Justice Walk 2025: AWJAI Advocates for Human Rights and Justice Reform

Justice Walk 2025 highlights the growing importance of public awareness in promoting human rights and justice reform in Nigeria. On October 31, 2025, the Asabe Waziri Justice Advocacy Initiative (AWJAI) joined the walk in partnership with the Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC). The goal was simple: We aimed to encourage citizens to take an active role in strengthening the justice system.

The walk began at Millennium Park in Abuja and moved through the Central Business District. From the outset, it drew strong public attention. People stopped to listen, ask questions and collect flyers. Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) managed traffic and ensured the procession remained safe and orderly.

Throughout the Justice Walk, participants engaged directly with members of the public. They explained basic human rights and highlighted the importance of civic responsibility. In addition, the team visited the Federal Secretariat to reach more people. As a result, more citizens understood how justice reform affects their daily life.

More importantly, the Justice Walk created a strong platform for practical civic education. Many Nigerians are still unaware of their legal rights. They also do not know what steps to take when those rights are violated. By encouraging open conversations, AWJAI and its partners empowered citizens to seek information, demand accountability and engage more confidently with the justice system.

Events like the Justice Walk 2025 strengthen collaboration between civil society and the public. As awareness grows, participation increases. As a result, communities become more confident in advocating for fairness and transparency. Over time, this kind of engagement contributes to meaningful and lasting reform.

At AWJAI, we believe real change begins with informed citizens. This experience reaffirmed our commitment to promoting human rights, encouraging accountability and supporting justice sector reform across Nigeria. We will continue to work with partners and communities to build a justice system that is fair, accessible and inclusive for all.
