On July 23, 2025, the Asabe Waziri Justice Advocacy Initiative (AWJAI), in collaboration with the Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee (ACJMC), carried out a Bwari Police Station oversight visit.  This visit formed part of ongoing efforts to promote accountability and protect the rights of detainees.

Her Worship, Magistrate Chiemena Nonye Okonrokwo of the Bwari Magistrate Court, led the exercise.  During the visit, the team found twenty three (23) male detainees in custody, including two (2) minors.

After reviewing the cases, the Magistrate granted bail where appropriate.  She also ordered that other detainees be promptly charged to court where necessary.  In addition, she ordered that the two minors be separated from adult detainees.  Furthermore, she ensured that one minor with visible injuries received immediate medical attention.

These actions show the importance of protecting vulnerable persons in detention.  They also show how Bwari Police Station oversight can improve compliance with legal standards and strengthen accountability within the justice system.

At AWJAI, we remain committed to building a justice system that works for everyone.  We will continue to promote transparency, protect rights and ensure accountability where it matters most.
