A Mother’s Fight for Justice: Update on Ms. J. A
The fight for justice is a continuous journey that we walk together.
In November 2024, a five year old Miss A was brutally abused by her father and stepmother in Kano State. Her mother, heartbroken but determined to fight for justice reached out to AWJAI in January 2025. Since then, we’ve stood by them, providing legal support, medical care and hope.
The legal battle has faced delays. On two court dates, including July 3, 2025, the defendants and their lawyer failed to appear. Still, the prosecution called its first witness, and the court foreclosed the defendants’ right to cross-examine due to their absence.
Justice is slow, but progress is real.
When Miss A’s treatment was nearly halted due to a sponsor’s withdrawal, we intervened. We also supporting her mother to start a small business and rebuild their lives.
We commend the Kano State Police for their swift investigation, which helped bring this case to court. And we remain committed to seeing justice through, not just in the courtroom, but in the lives of survivors.
At AWJAI, we don’t just make demands, we fight for justice by standing beside those who seek it. Support AWJAI in our work of helping victims of injustice.
